I've always wondered at the airport policy of not allowing water inside the departure hall. It's a secret conspiracy to make you buy more water, I tell you! A secret conspiracy!

They can't ban batteries because the rich businesspeople need them on their first/business class flights.
So they go for the next best thing - assume that all liquids are potentially detonable by batteries.

AHAHAHA! =) I must admit, that one made me choke on my coke.
I do think it has a logical line to it though. Batteries are also found in pacemakers, cameras, toys, watches so it'd be impossible to ban all batteries. Even then, it's not like the plane is not wired. So really, banning liquids is the answer, since we can't ban solids (for obvious reasons) or air.
Actually, no, it doesn't work like that. The only batteries that are (feasibly) combustible are lithium-ion, and even then it's not as easy to cause a li-oh battery to explode these days as it was when the technology first came out. And of all the li-oh batteries, only one the size of a laptop batt would be a significant threat.
(Why are we overanalyzing a comic strip again?)
You misunderstand me. I meant batteries as detonators. I'm no bomb expert but I'm fairly sure that a small watch battery would suffice. Most explosives these days are detonated by an electrical jolt rather than a fuse. Take away the detonator and the explosive becomes useless.
I have no idea why
The reason why water cannot be brought onto flights by passengers...
Too many passengers have had problems with the difference in pressure resulting in leaking water from bottles.. resulting in drowning hand carry luggage or... Oops, I wet my pants.
I kid.
Of course we all know the real reason is because water is dangerous, very dangerous.
What do you mean by water being dangerous?
Water can drown people, water can choke people etc
Funny, Queen brought back 4 packets of COOKED laksa complete with gravy and everything to KL on MAS today.
What? Bombers don't attack from Kch-KL?
COMPLACENCY.
I brought Laksa into Singapore the other day. No problem. BUT they took away my water...
Kuching airport takes your water even B4 you go through immigression. BUt in singapore, you're free to roam around the terminal with ANY liquid in hand and they only confiscate it just b4 you enter the gate.
I wonder if someone has tried to bring lubricant (it's a type of liquid rite?) aboard the plane, will they confiscate it? Just a thought.
Definitely! Some plastic explosives look exactly like lubricant.
(I just realize I've condemned myself on that point - I'm screwed because either I a) use lubricant, or b) make explosives).
GULP.
Considering that you're in NUS, I guess the answer is a). Amp up the fun bro
Amp up the fun bro
o.O I am. Speechless.
But using lubricant doesn't always have to mean there's smth nasty involved. (^.^)
I think some lubricants can be used for dry skin, well, I think they're also classified as lubricants... Eheh..
